We received an enquiry from a local company to produce an Outer Cover Spinning in 1.5mm st.st EN1.4404 (316L) 2B.

This type of spinning is one that Artec has decades of experience in producing. We are often the go to metal spinning company to manufacture spun or fabricated parts that other spinning companies often reject.

This is why Artec have positioned itself as one of the industry leaders in metal spinning since 1964.

Manufacturing Process

The first stage of the process was to make the tooling, which due to the demands of the spinning, was manufactured in D2 instead of S275. The tooling was also hardened to ensure that the optimum properties in terms of hardness, strength, toughness and wear resistance.

As Artec Engineering have the capabilities to manufacture the tooling in house with one of our expert tool makers, this enabled us to keep the lead time to a minimum and ensured that the quality is maintained throughout.

Following the completion of the tooling, a length of 76.2 dia. x 1.5mm 316 stainless steel tube was then cut to size and then annealed prior to spinning due to the demands of the form of the required spinning.

The annealing process is a heat treatment process that changes the physical and sometimes also the chemical properties of a material to increase ductility and reduce the hardness to make it more workable.

After the material had been annealed, the length of the tube was then placed over the tooling and spun to create the hemisphere form. A 40mm bore was then machined.

The finished part was then brushed finished by one of our expert polishers. Through keeping our polishing capabilities in house, again helps us to keep the lead time to a minimum and all parts leaving Artec are of the highest capabilities.

This is just another one of the high quality spinning’s produced by Artec Engineering Ltd.
